AP4ALL School Mentor Job Description

AP4ALL recognizes the importance of having an on-site school mentor work closely with students taking online courses. Mentor support plays a tremendous part in student success. One online mentor at each school site should be assigned to monitor students participating in AP4ALL courses at their school.

School mentors are a student's lifeline between AP4ALL classes and the local school. Mentors help students establish expectations for their online course, monitor student progress, and keep in touch with parents, instructors, and other support staff.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Participating in professional development training designed to provide school mentors with an understanding of student needs and the ability to provide necessary support.
  • Working with local technical staff and AP4ALL support staff to ensure that the teacher and all students in a particular course have access to necessary technological resources.
  • Maintaining contact with the AP4ALL support staff, students, AP4ALL teacher, local school administration, and parents.
  • Monitoring student progress and participation activity, reporting of grades, and assisting with AP4ALL policies and procedures.
  • Communicating with individual student guidance personnel.
  • Brokering any issues needing resolution such as plagiarism, inactivity, or technical difficulties.
  • Assisting with any additional concerns.
The role of an effective mentor is to:
  • Meet with students at least once a week .
  • Review online student progress on a regular basis.
  • Follow up on submitted assignments to make sure they are being received.
  • Correspond with instructors.
  • Talk with parents.
