HED 677 - Doctoral Seminar in Higher Education Research

Instructor: Elizabeth Allan

Description: Examines major epistemological approaches to inquiry with respect to the field of Higher Educational Leadership. Seminar participants will examine theories of knowledge formation and distribution while considering the implications for postsecondary institutions and their own approaches to scholarly inquiry.

Prerequisites: Higher Education Leadership Doctoral Student or Permission

SEI 507 - Fostering Partnerships in Early Intervention

Instructor: Jane Brennan

Description: Develops knowledge, values and skills for building partnerships with families, collaborative teaming, consultative roles, service coordination, advocacy and professional ethics in early intervention. Emphasizes understanding of ecological systems, principles of family-centered care and development of cultural competence.

SEI 511 - Planning Inclusive Early Childhood Programs and Environments

Instructor: Sandra Doctoroff

Description: Design and evaluation of environments, curriculum development, activity planning, individualized instruction, and adaptations to meet the needs of infants and young children with special needs within inclusive early care and education settings. Also focuses on supporting social and emotional development and play.

Prerequisites: SEI 501 and SEI 502 and SEI 507

SEI 514 - Administration and Public Policy for Early Childhood Programs

Instructor: Sandra Doctoroff

Description: Focuses on program administration and promotion of public policy. Topics include leadership, management approaches, managing personnel, finance and budgeting, strategic planning, program evaluation, service delivery systems and models, public policy and advocacy.

SEI 515 - Supervision and Professional Development in Early Childhood Programs

Instructor: Deborah Rooks

Description: Examines issues in supporting early intervention and early care and education personnel. Considers adult learning, supervision, mentoring, coaching, in-service and pre-service personnel preparation, professional standards and competencies, and professional development systems.

Prerequisites: SEI 501 and SEI 502 and SEI 507

How to Register for a Course

For further information on graduate courses listed above, contact the University of Maine Graduate School at 581-3219. Registration questions can be answered by Becky Libby.

ATM questions can be answered by Anne Perloff at (207) 561-3584.

If you are not enrolled in a degree program:
You will need to fill out a Graduate Non-degree form as well as a Course Registration form.

  1. Go to the UMaine Graduate School web site at www2.umaine.edu/graduate/.
  2. Click on the "Forms and Documents" link on the left.
  3. Scroll until you find the "Non-degree Application & Registration" link.
  4. Open the file (available in either PDF or Word format).
  5. Print and complete the two forms contained in the file.
  6. Submit both forms to the graduate school with a check covering the $25 non-degree application fee. You will be billed for the course at a later date.

If you are enrolled in a degree program:
