ATM Equipment

Training in becoming familiar and comfortable with the ATM equipment

Understanding the power of the technological resources available within the ATM classroom is one of the keys to becoming a successful distance learning teacher. Whether it is understanding the significance of positions on the instructor camera and student camera or unleashing the power of the document camera, the MDLP can provide the technical training necessary to allow this aspect of teaching over distance to become more seamless and transparent.

Course Materials

Support and guidance in adapting existing course materials and creating new materials that are appropriate for use on-screen

The materials that are used on screen, whether they are displayed from a laptop via the scan converter or as a hard copy on the document camera, need to be created in a way that allows viewers to read with ease. Aspects such as font size and type, colors, and other basic design concepts applicable to creating appropriate on-screen materials are all important in ensuring that your students understand the message you are trying to convey.

Teaching Strategies

Assistance in implementing teaching strategies that are designed to engage students and promote interactivity

The Maine Distance Learning Project technology is an incredible powerful video-conferencing tool that allows for teachers to deliver interactive content over a distance. However, interaction does not always come easy for beginning distance learning teachers, and it is vital that they understand the relationship between employing strategies that promote interactivity and a quality experience for students. Adopting a learner-centered approach to teaching, and the generation of real-time interactivity not only between teacher and student, but also between students at different sites, is key to both the teacher and the students having a good educational experience.

Technology Integration

Assistance with integrating existing and innovative technologies

Integrating technology into the curriculum can often be a time-consuming and challenging process for teachers. There is a wealth of technological resources available in the MDLP classroom for not only the distance learning teacher, but also for the innovative classroom teacher. Help can be provided with generating and implementing ideas on how to integrate technologies like video, software, or hardware into curriculum plans.

Special Events

Assistance with creating events designed to enrich curriculum

Live, interactive conversations with your students interviewing a guest speaker are an excellent way to bring an "expert" into the classroom. The Maine Distance Learning Project technology allows you to connect in an interoperable manner with other similar forms of video-conferencing technologies. Help can be provided with generating ideas on how to incorporate this feature, and also on how to implement it as a distance learning strategy.
