November 2007
Farm and Food Security for Maine:
a series of focused community discussions in November - December
(posted 9/13/07)
Dates: TBD, November - December 2007
Description:
Maine farmers, local food processors and distributors, independent retailers, economic development specialists and a range consumer groups (anti-hunger, 'buy local', farm-school groups, food policy, etc.) will gather for a series of meetings in November and December to explore the mutual benefits of a local/regional Maine food network. Each of the discussions will take place at four ATM sites simultaneously. The rooms are needed for a total of four hours, and there will be a total of four discussions in the series. We are selecting sites now based in part on a survey of possible participants.
Interest in the project is rapidly growing around the state, and it looks as if there will be many requests to select specific sites. In addition to responding to interest from participants, we very much hope to locate sites where the DL contact person takes an interest in the project - because it will demonstrate the potential of the DL system; because the person has an interest in the concept of "Maine Feeds Maine", or because there may be students interested in taking part in some way (studying or documenting the project, joining the discussions, etc.).
How to Sign Up:
If you are interested in being one of the four interactive sites, please get in touch at your earliest convenience with Jane Livingston, project coordinator, at: jane_livingston@verizon.net or (207) 947-4117.
